Product & science

What is WhirlBiotic?

WhirlBiotic is a probiotic care product for private hot tubs and spas. The formulation contains Bacillus Ferment and is intended to support routine care of organic residue. WhirlBiotic is not a disinfectant and does not replace required water sanitation.

How is WhirlBiotic different from chlorine or bromine?

Chlorine and bromine are disinfectants. WhirlBiotic is a complementary probiotic care product aimed at organic residue and the water environment, but it does not disinfect. Reduce required disinfectant levels only when local rules, measurements, and the spa manufacturer's instructions allow it.

What is Bacillus ferment?

Bacillus Ferment is the INCI name used on the product for its probiotic component. According to the manufacturer, Risk Group 1 cultures are used. That classification describes microbiological risk; the product label and directions remain authoritative for use.

Is there scientific evidence behind probiotic water care?

There is general research on probiotic cleaning and microbial competition. General studies are not automatically proof of WhirlBiotic's performance in a hot tub. Our science page explains the proposed approach and limitations; product-specific test documents are available on request.

What does the product contain? Are ingredients listed?

Four ingredients: Aqua (water), Bacillus Ferment (the probiotic active), Phenoxyethanol (a mild preservative), and Ethylhexylglycerin (a skin-friendly co-preservative). The full INCI declaration is on every bottle and on the How it works page.

Does it contain microplastics, glitter or polymers?

No. WhirlBiotic is free of microplastics, glitter, polymers, dyes, fragrances, phosphates and sulfates. The formulation is biodegradable.

Is it vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes. WhirlBiotic is vegan, not tested on animals and contains no animal-derived ingredients.

Where is WhirlBiotic produced?

WhirlBiotic is produced in Belgium. According to the manufacturer, batches are microbiologically tested; product-specific documents are available on request.

Application & dosing

How often do I use it?

30 ml daily for the first three days, then 30 ml once per week. One bottle covers about 33 weekly applications. If the spa is used several times per day, we recommend dosing an additional cap of WhirlBiotic after each bath.

How do I dose WhirlBiotic?

Start phase: 30 ml daily for three consecutive days. After that, dose once per week — the weekly amount depends on your water volume (30 ml up to 1 m³, 50 ml up to 2 m³, 100 ml up to 4 m³, 150 ml up to 6 m³). The full dosing table is on the How it works page.

What is the start phase?

The start phase colonises your water with the probiotic cultures. For the first three days, dose 30 ml daily — after that, a weekly care dose is enough. After an extended pause (several weeks), we recommend a shorter two-day start phase.

How long does a 1 L bottle last?

For a hot tub up to 1 m³ at the standard 30 ml weekly dose, one bottle covers about 33 weekly applications — roughly eight months of care after the start phase.

How fast does it work?

Experience suggests that water feel or odour may change within 24 to 48 hours. Establishing a stable care routine can take one to two weeks. Results depend on factors including filtration, use, starting water, and correct dosing.

Can I still use chlorine or bromine?

Yes. WhirlBiotic is compatible with reduced amounts of chlorine or bromine. Very high spikes can temporarily suppress the cultures — once they subside, the microbiome rebuilds itself. Where chlorine or bromine is legally required, WhirlBiotic does not replace it.

What if I have hard water?

WhirlBiotic works across different water hardness levels. With very hard water we recommend extending the start phase and maintaining balanced water chemistry (pH 7.0 – 7.6).

Do I need to change the water before starting?

No. WhirlBiotic works with your existing water. Ideally, clean the filter and balance the water chemistry before the start phase.

What if I miss a weekly dose?

No problem. Resume with your next regular weekly dose — you don't need to double-dose. After a longer pause (several weeks), we recommend a shorter start phase.

Will it harm pumps, jets or filters?

The declared formulation contains no abrasive particles, polymers, or glitter. Use it only as directed on the label; for sensitive materials, warranty questions, or a specialist filtration system, check the spa manufacturer's instructions first.

Does it work in outdoor and indoor hot tubs?

Yes. WhirlBiotic is suitable for outdoor and indoor hot tubs, free-standing spas and swim spas. At very low outdoor temperatures, biological activity slows down — but the cultures are cold-tolerant.

What if the water isn't clearer after 24 hours?

Check the filter, water chemistry, and whether the dose matches your water volume. Full biological effect builds over one to two weeks — early effects (softer feel, less odour) are usually noticeable much sooner. If you don't see any change after two weeks, contact support.

Health & safety

Is it safe for children and pets?

Use WhirlBiotic only as directed on the label and keep the concentrate out of reach of children and animals. For children, also follow the spa manufacturer's rules on temperature, supervision, and water hygiene. Ask a doctor or veterinarian about individual health concerns.

Is it safe for children?

Keep the concentrate out of children's reach. Whether and how a child should use a hot tub depends on age, water temperature, supervision, water hygiene, and the spa manufacturer's guidance, regardless of the care product. Seek medical advice if unsure.

Is it safe for pets?

Keep the concentrate out of animals' reach and prevent pets from drinking hot-tub water. If swallowed or if unusual symptoms occur, keep the label available and seek veterinary advice.

Is it safe for sensitive skin or allergies?

The listed formulation is free from fragrances and dyes, but individual skin reactions cannot be ruled out. The product is not a treatment for allergies or skin conditions. Seek medical advice before use if you have sensitive skin, symptoms, or concerns.

Is it safe during pregnancy?

We do not provide medical clearance for hot-tub use during pregnancy. Water temperature and hygiene are relevant regardless of the care product. Discuss hot-tub use with your treating clinician first.

What is Safety Class 1?

Risk Group 1 describes microorganisms that are not expected to cause human disease under current knowledge. The classification does not replace product labelling or use instructions, and it does not mean the concentrate is intended for consumption.

What happens if it's swallowed accidentally?

Rinse the mouth with water, do not induce vomiting, and keep the label available. If symptoms occur, a larger amount was swallowed, or you are unsure, contact a clinician or poison information centre. Keep out of reach of children.

How should I store WhirlBiotic?

In the original packaging, sealed, between 5 °C and 35 °C, protected from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Shelf life is at least 24 months unopened — ideally use within 12 months after opening.

Does it have a smell?

WhirlBiotic is virtually odourless. Straight from the bottle there's a slight, mildly fermented impression — in the water you won't notice anything. On the contrary: many users report that the typical chlorine smell in their spa room disappears.

Is it certified or tested by independent labs?

According to the manufacturer, batches are microbiologically tested. WhirlBiotic is not marketed as a disinfectant or biocide and does not replace required disinfection. Product and test documents are available on request; the label, safety information, and locally applicable hygiene rules remain authoritative.

Subscriptions & returns

Do you offer a subscription?

A subscription option is in preparation and will be available in the coming months. To join the waitlist, subscribe to our newsletter.

How can I cancel or pause my subscription?

Consumers have the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal. Original-sealed bottles may be withdrawn during that period and returned with our free DHL label. Opened bottles are excluded from withdrawal for hygiene reasons; statutory warranty rights for defects remain unaffected.

Can I return opened bottles?

Once the seal has been removed, statutory withdrawal is excluded for hygiene reasons. Damaged or defective goods can still be claimed under the statutory warranty; contact [email protected].

How long does a refund take?

After we receive the return, we refund the amount within 5–7 business days to the original payment method.

Can I change my shipping address after ordering?

As long as the order hasn't shipped, yes. Write to [email protected] as quickly as possible with your order number and the new address.

Right of withdrawal (EU)

As a consumer in the EU, you have the right to withdraw from your order within 14 days of receipt without giving a reason. The withdrawal notice is in the footer and included with every order.
